More importantly - in our view and that of generations of young children staying with us (many of them now bringing their own children) - is what makes the The Old Coastguards so special and memorable for young children: the experience of what might be described as 'traditional family holiday values' which build relationships and develop a child's interest in the world around us.

• Great seaside accommodation with a historic atmosphere (the cottages were built in 1823).
• Frequently other young children (and parents) to make friends with in a neighbouring cottage.
• Great gardens in which to play games and explore.
• Space and sea breezes to fly a kite with family and friends.
• Sharing wonderful walks in the countryside or along the coastal path - exciting early interest in nature and landscape.
• Searching for that most beautiful of pebbles on the beach.
• Sharing precious moments with Daddy fishing and perhaps taking him a sandwich or a flask of coffee.
• The opportunity to share a holiday with grandparents on 'neutral ground'.
• Having time to look at the most amazing stars – looking for the Milky Way – perhaps seeing a satellite or a shooting star.
• Sitting with the family round a log fire in the evening; afterwards being put to bed and settling down snugly to the sound of the sea.
